The abduction of the schoolgirls in Chibok was one of the issues that dominated informal discussions at the conference. Many of the delegates wondered how Nigeria had so many generals in the armed forces who had not fought a war. One after the other, the delegates, who were at the lobby of the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja, said the ongoing war against the country by the dreaded Boko Haram sect should be an opportunity for Nigerian soldiers and officers to exhibit their prowess in the handling of weapons.
“They become generals after returning from courses in India. I have never seen this kind of thing in my life. Now, it is time to fight, they are asking other countries to come to their aid,” one delegate said in anger. Another even took the matter to another level when he claimed some ex-militants were better than Nigeria’s military officers.
