Six Wedding Guests Die in Kano after Taking Local Intoxicant

Six persons have died in Kano after taking a locally-brewed  intoxicant during a wedding party.
An eyewitness told reporters  Monday that the incident happened at about 10:30pm on Sunday, adding that the deceased, who were all males, drank the substance during the party.
It was gathered that the deceased persons, who were between the ages of 20 and 22, collapsed after taking the intoxicant.
The eyewitness said the deceased died on their way to a hospital.

Kano State Police Command spokesman, Musa Magaji Majia, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), confirmed the incident, adding: “The police have since commenced investigation into the matter with a view to finding out the cause of the incident.”
He said: "On receiving the report, we invited the groom and he is currently assisting us in our investigation. But I cannot confirm the number of the dead until we finish our investigation."
In another development, the police yesterday arraigned a 20-year-old man before a Senior Magistrates' court, sitting in Kano, for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl.
According to the police First  Information Report (FIR),  Sadi Ahmed, residing at Mile Tara in Kadawa village in Ungogo Local Government Area,  committed the alleged crime on March 19  when he lured  his victim and  forcibly had  sexual intercourse with her.
The charge sheet read: “On 22/2/2014 at about 2130 hours, one Inusa Nuhu, male, resident of Mile Tara, Kadawa village in Ungogo Local Government Area, Kano, reported at Ungogo division, that on 19/3/2014 at about 2000 hours, you, Sadi Ahmed, aged 20 years, deceived and lured his daughter, aged 6 years, on top of a tyre and had sexual intercourse with her.”
But the accused person denied the allegation before the court. Police prosecutor, Ibrahim Abdulrazak, a Corporal,  informed the court that the offence was capital in nature, adding that  the case file was ready for the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
But he told the court that it lacks jurisdiction to commence proceedings over the matter and asked for an adjournment of the matter until another date.
The court, presided over by Senior  Magistrate Ummi Sani Kurawa, adjourned the case until April, 29 for mention and further ruled that the accused person  be remanded in prison custody.
