Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday ordered the federal government to apologise to the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi for seizing his international passport by the State Security Service (SSS) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos in February.
Sanusi, who was removed from office on February 20 by President Goodluck Jonathan, had through his counsel, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo (SAN), filed a fundamental human rights enforcement suit against the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Inspector General of Police (IG), and the SSS, seeking an order restraining them from arresting, detaining or otherwise harassing him.
The judge also ordered the government to pay Sanusi the sum of N50 million as exemplary damages for the embarrassment the arrest caused him.
