I will assume you did listen to President Jonathan's Media Chat last night or you must have read about it in the papers or some blogs. I didn't post any of his words because it wasn't new, it was like a repetition of all he has been saying; just like all the Presidential Media Chats we have had since my life.
While I was growing up, I always had this tendency of passing blames, if their was no one that partook in a particular prank gone wrong with me, Devil was my fall guy, my scapegoat or maybe my punch bag as my Mum will quickly descend on him in prayers.
As I grew older and older, I started learning about responsibility, about owning up to my mistakes; my Mentor then told me its an act of maturity to admit your mistakes and apologize. At that stage, I learnt how to quickly apologize and be remorseful , At a certain stage, that too stopped working.
This stage is the real life stage, at this stage I had to work for people and there was zero room for mistakes. I saw people get fired for things I know I would do on a normal day and hope to be forgiven when I apologized. At this stage, someone had to take the blame and the fall; Devil wasn't they to fall for me anymore and my innocent looks didn't count anymore.
I learnt to take full responsibility for anything I did and I always accepted the consequences that followed like a soldier. That's what you get when you have to do a job that works on real life scenario like a Network Operator or a Medical Doctor or Newscaster on live television or a PRESIDENT of a country.
This brings us to the issue at hand, the state of the nation as regards Boko Haram and the missing girls and Our Presidents attitude towards it.
I don't want to tell you what you already know- things like the fact that the kidnap was preventable based on the fact that the area is a RED CODED zone and you have more than 300 people in a given area at a certain given time, by common sense, you should know that this is a clear target for any terrorist. I don't want to tell you that it took more than 4 hours for our security operatives to mobilize a search team. I don't want to tell you that Our President was at a Political rally even less than 24 hours after a major bomb blast in our capital city of which the kidnap fell under the same time frame. There is a lot you already know that I wont want to tell you.
Am not a politician and I don't give a hoot where the president of Nigeria comes from. What I do care about is accountability on all sectors, most importantly lives and properties. You can be corrupt and all that and we the masses might still be going about our daily businesses but when our lives and properties become endangered, its a very serious issue and needs urgent attention.
Its clear that our president cant handle the current situation, I know some people would say Boko haram is a political tool to get Pres. Jonathan out of office and if he bows down, that means opposition won. But then, this has to do with lives and properties of innocent apolitical citizens: what does the kidnapped girls know about politics?
There is no point playing politics with the stability of more than 160 million people; Being a president shouldn't be based on sentiments or Ethnicity rather it should be based on competence.
Taking responsibility is divine inspired and an act of maturity "oh am sorry I couldn't do this" is never an act of cowardice.
Today I listened to my president once more and not even an iota of hope flowed out from him into me. Nobody was blamed for what happened and no reason for incompetence was given. I can go on and on because of the pain I feel in my heart right now and the tears falling down my eyes.
Its hard to say but I think My president should do the honorable thing of taking responsibility for his incompetence. Someone has to be blamed and someone has to go.. I think its time for the team leader to bow out.
This is my Candid opinion devoid of any form of politics or tribalism rather of patriotism to my Country Nigeria.
