Meet Dating Site’s Most Popular Woman Lauren Urasek On How It’s Done

EARLIER this year, Lauren Urasek was outed as New York’s most-messaged woman on dating site OKCupid. This week she reflected on what she has learned about online dating – the good, the bad and the ugly.
At the time of the New York magazine article that identified Ms Urasek, 23, she was receiving around 35 messages a day. In the three months since, she says she has received more than 15,000 4- or 5-star ratings (the highest possible) from other users.
The professional make-up artist says she was an “ugly duckling” growing up, and includes astronomy, watching hockey and sipping whiskey among her favourite pasttimes.

She isn’t sure exactly what accounts for her popularity, but thinks it comes down to her “tattoos and blue eyes” and the fact she is confident and secure regardless of whether she is in a relationship or not. “I have a strong opinion and know what I want,” she says.

Ms Urasek writes, in an article for XOJane, that while she’s flattered to have so many admirers, “when it comes down to it, it’s not really benefiting me”

The downside of having a lot of options, she says, is that she might be passing over someone she would draw closer to over time (“choose to go on a second date”) if there weren’t someone else always available to get to know.

While Ms Urasek says it’s “fun having your choice when you never did growing up”, the bottom line is this: “Attention from 1000 men doesn’t equate to attention from one significant man.”
