The start of the fourth season of Game of Thrones has been declared a smash hit.
The HBO series saw 6.6m viewers during its Sunday premiere, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
That's up 2.2m viewers from its last season debut and the biggest numbers the network has season since the finale of Sopranos as repored by HBO.
The show also saw another 1.6m viewers when the show had an encore at 11 p.m.
That means the total numbers for the entire evening was an impressive 8.2m. No wonder
HBO Go, the streaming service, crashed after Thrones started.
The show has been building momentum slowly. Last year it overcame HBO's other top show True Blood.
The level of obsession the show has inspired is such that to coincide with its US debut, hardcore UK fans were treated to a unique 2am screening by Sky Atlantic, prior to tonight's standard 9pm launch.
Given that this is a REVIEW, please be warned that from here on in, it does contain SPOILERS.
One phrase we didn't see, and you're not going to read here, was that by now commonplace phrase: 'Previously on Game Of Thrones...'
After three seasons, either you've been following GOT or you haven't, and either way, we'd be here all day if we re-capped everything that happened at the end of series three.
stay glued..
